A great design is professionally crafted, designed to captivate the audience while being extremely functional and user friendly. The user should find the design compelling, so much so that they simply cannot leave the website. At the same time all the important features and links should be within easy grasp.
Functionality is a vital but much overlooked aspect of great design. Usability should not be sacrificed for the sake of design, but nor should design be compromised for the sake of usability. Professional design allows the two aspects to be highly integrated. A quality design can compliment a usable interface, and it should.
